**Sammy's Canggu Bali: You Won't BELIEVE What Happened Next!**
Sammy's Canggu Bali: This Place… Whew. You Won't Believe What Happened Next! (Seriously.)
Okay, so I just got back from Sammy's in Canggu, Bali, and… wow. Just wow. Before I dive in, let me level with you: I'm a very particular traveler. I need my Wi-Fi to actually work, I appreciate a clean room (like, REALLY clean), and I'm a sucker for a good pool. And this place? This place mostly delivered, with a few… interesting surprises.
Accessibility: A Mixed Bag, Honestly.
First off, let's talk about getting around. I’m giving this a solid 4/5 stars. The good news is the front desk is 24/7 so you can check-in anytime. While they have an elevator (thank you, sweet baby Jesus!), I'm not sure specifically about wheelchair accessibility throughout the entire property. I didn't personally require it, but I did notice that the entrance and common areas seemed pretty easy to navigate. However, I'm a little unsure about the restaurant and pool areas. Check with them directly if accessibility is a major concern.
Rooms: Comfy, with a Few Quirks.
The room itself? Okay, let me be brutally honest. As someone with an eye for detail, the room had one or two things that were a little off. My room was fitted with blackout curtains, which I loved, and an air-conditioning which was perfect for the bali climate. The mini-bar isn't the most well-stocked, but hey, you can't have everything! While I never tested the alarm clock, because I always wake up early and I had my wake-up service on. A very important feature for a traveler.
Internet? Yes, but…
Okay, here's the thing. In today's travel world, internet is a MUST. And Sammy's gets it. Free Wi-Fi in all rooms is a godsend. Internet Access – LAN is definitely there too. However, the Internet services in my room were spotty at best. The Wi-Fi in public areas was a bit better, but still could be up and down. I mean, come on, I work remotely! I can't be dealing with slow internet! I would give it a 3/5 for Internet.
Dining: More Than Meets the Eye
Food is a BIG deal for me. And Sammy's surprised me here. They have a restaurant A la carte in the restaurant. The International cuisine in the restaurant was delicious and the coffee/tea in the restaurant was great. Breakfast? YES, and Breakfast [buffet] made my day! They have Asian cuisine in the restaurant too. Room service [24-hour] is a lifesaver. Poolside bar is excellent. The Happy Hour was fantastic. I didn't venture into lunch or dinner Desserts in restaurant I'm more of an Asian breakfast kinda guy myself, although there is a Western breakfast for those who like one. Their bottle of water and salad in restaurant were just what I needed. Snack bar and Soup in restaurant also available. Vegetarian restaurant is available for you plant-based foodies!
Things to Do and Relax (This is Where Sammy's Shines)
Alright, buckle up. This is where Sammy's really shines. As far as ways to relax, they’ve got you covered.
- Pools: I'd give the Swimming pool [outdoor] on a solid 5/5! The poolside is just a blast!
- The Spa: I got a Body wrap and a Body scrub and it was divine! I give it a 5/5!
- Gym/fitness: If you are a gym addict, this is your place. I'd give it a 4/5.
- Sauna, Steamroom, Spa/sauna: I'm not a big fan of these, but they are available.
- Massages: Had one, and it was so good, I booked another one immediately. Seriously, 5/5 stars.
Cleanliness and Safety: They Take It Seriously.
- Daily disinfection in common areas is a thing, which I appreciated.
- Hand sanitizer everywhere.
- Staff trained in safety protocol.
- Rooms sanitized between stays (they told me at least!).
- Anti-viral cleaning products? Probably.
- Safe dining setup seemed well-managed.
- Sterilizing equipment was visible. I give this a 5/5, and felt very safe.
Services and Conveniences: The Little Things Matter
- Air conditioning in public area - essential!
- Concierge Daily housekeeping was great, too. I loved coming back to a clean room.
- Luggage storage was a lifesaver.
- Car park [free of charge] always a winner.
For the Kids: Family-Friendly Fun
I don't have kids, but Sammy's seems pretty family-friendly! Babysitting service, Family/child friendly facilities, and Kids meal. That's all great!
My "You Won't Believe What Happened Next!" Moment:
Remember how I said there were surprises? Okay, here goes… I had a massage at the spa, which was, as I said, heavenly. They left me in the most tranquil state of bliss. As I was getting ready to leave, I was approached by one of the staff and asked, "Are you having a good time?" and I said, "Absolutely, it was great." And right then, he asked me if I wanted to have an entire day to myself! I looked at him, and with a grin on his face, I said, "Of course". It turned out they arranged for me to have a private driver to take me all around Bali for the day! It was amazing, and it made the whole experience just… unforgettable.
In conclusion…
Sammy's Canggu Bali is a solid choice. It's got the essentials covered, the staff are genuinely friendly, and the spa is worth the trip alone. The internet needs some work, and the rooms aren't perfect, but the overall experience is pretty darn good. And hey, you might just get your own "You Won't Believe What Happened Next!" moment.
My Score: 4 out of 5 Stars.

Sammy's Canggu Catastrophe (and Cracking Moments): A Messy Bali Itinerary
Alright, buckle up buttercups, because this ain't gonna be one of those perfectly curated Instagram itineraries. This is REAL. This is Canggu. This is probably going to be a disaster. But a glorious disaster, right?
Day 1: Arrival, Regret, and Rice Paddy Dreams (Or Nightmares?)
- 11:00 AM (ish): Landed at Denpasar Airport. Already sweating. Bali's humidity is like a warm, clingy hug you can't escape. Immigration? Smooth…ish. My passport picture looks like a hostage photo, and the immigration officer cracked a smile. Success!
- 12:00 PM (ish): Taxi to my Airbnb in Canggu. "Cozy" is maybe generous. Think… a glorified shoebox with a mosquito problem and a view of a rice paddy. But hey, it's authentic, right? (Famous last words.)
- 1:00 PM: Lunch at "Warung Bu Mi." A tiny, hole-in-the-wall place. Ordered Nasi Goreng. Ate it. Almost cried because it was so damn good. This is what I came for. This is Bali. This is… spicy. My tongue is currently a raging inferno. Worth it. Absolutely worth it.
- 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Wandered around, attempting to get my bearings. Failed. Got completely lost. Found a surf shop. Briefly considered buying a board, then remembered I can barely stand in the ocean without face-planting. Solid decision. Stumbled on a ridiculously adorable street dog. Briefly considered running away with the dog. Responsibilities. Boo.
- 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Sunbathing in the place where I had my lunch, and the sun was setting.
- 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Found the beach. It’s…magical. Like, actually. The waves are relatively chill, the sand is black (volcanic, baby!), and the sunset… well, the sunset just about stole my soul. Sat there, mesmerized. Almost forgot I was jet-lagged and covered in mosquito bites. Almost.
- 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Dinner at "The Lawn." (Because clichés, right?). Cocktails. People-watching. Realized I'm the only person who hasn't mastered the art of looking effortlessly bohemian. Briefly contemplated moving back to my life and working at the local supermarket. Decided against it. The cocktails helped.
- 9:00 PM onwards: Bed. Exhausted. Already questioning all my life choices. And the mosquitos… they're plotting something. Pray for me.
Day 2: Surfing, Sunburn, and Smoothie Bowl Shenanigans
- 7:00 AM: Woke up to the sound of roosters. Apparently, they're alarm clocks in Bali. Rude.
- 7:30 AM: Attempted yoga. Failed miserably. Twisted myself into positions that are pretty sure I wasn't made to do. My inner monologue: "This is supposed to be relaxing? I'm pretty sure I tore a ligament."
- 8:30 AM: Smoothie bowls at "The Shady Shack." Instagrammable AF. Actually delicious, though. Fueling up for my surfing lesson. Which, let's be honest, is probably going to be hilarious. Or a tragedy. Or both.
- 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM: "Surfing lesson". The instructor, bless his heart, tried. I mostly flailed. Took a lot of water up my nose. Swallowed some seawater. Surfed for about 3 seconds, felt glorious. Fell off. Repeated. More water up my nose. Sunscreen started getting into my eyes. Cried a little from the sun and sand. This is definitely a comedy.
- 12:00 PM: Post-surf lunch. Grilled fish tacos. Absolutely amazing. My sunburn is, however, also pretty amazing (in a horrifically painful way).
- 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Attempted to explore more of Canggu. Got lost again. Found a café with great coffee and air conditioning. Hid inside from the sun. People-watched. Witnessed someone attempting to ride a scooter wearing a full-body leopard print suit. Canggu, you never disappoint!
- 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Spa treatment. Deep tissue massage. Bliss. Pure, unadulterated bliss. The masseuse clearly understood the state of my poor, abused body. Thank God.
- 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Sunset drinks at a beach bar. This time, I’m prepared with an umbrella. The vibe is immaculate, as the kids say, but the waves are pretty damn intense. I can't take my eyes off it.
- 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Dinner at "Crate Cafe" - The food is pretty good, a bit overrated.
- 9:00 PM onward: More mosquito-induced paranoia. Bed. Praying for a less-sunburned, less-water-logged, less-failure-prone day tomorrow.
Day 3: The Temple, the Temple, and…More Temples?
- 7:00 AM: Same rooster! I wonder if he has a tiny rooster alarm clock?
- 8:00 AM: Breakfast at the breakfast place.
- 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Day trip to Tanah Lot Temple. (Finally getting some culture in my life!). The temple itself is beautiful, perched dramatically on a rock in the ocean. The hordes of tourists, less so. But managed to find some brief moments of peace and quiet. Took WAY too many photos. (I'm a cliché. I know. I accept it.) The waves are so loud! It's difficult to focus and remember what I was thinking sometimes. The beauty of the place is mesmerizing.
- 1:00 PM-2:00 PM: Lunch along the way.
- 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Got lost wandering around a local market. The smells! The colours! The sheer chaos! Fell in love with a ridiculously overpriced hand-carved wooden monkey. Resisted the urge to buy it. (Maybe.)
- 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Trying to enjoy a relaxing moment. The waves are beautiful, like an amazing show.
- 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Dinner at one of those places.
- 9:00 PM onward: Back to the villa, reflecting on the day. So many people. So many temples. So beautiful and mysterious. What a life!
Day 4: Farewell, Canggu (For Now…or Forever?)
- 7:00 AM: The rooster is a menace.
- 8:00 AM: One last glorious smoothie bowl. Trying not to think about leaving.
- 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Final beach walk. Trying to soak it all in. The sun, the sand, the salty air. Feeling a strange mix of sadness and…relief?
- 11:00 AM: Packing. Realizing I bought way too many sarongs and not enough bug spray.
- 12:00 PM: One last Nasi Goreng. One last tear.
- 1:00 PM: Taxi to the airport.
- 2:00 PM: Airport. Goodbye, Bali… Until next time, you gorgeous, chaotic, mosquito-infested paradise.
This itinerary is probably going to fall apart. Plans? What are plans? But that's the beauty of it, right? Embrace the mess. Revel in the unexpected. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll learn to surf. Or at least stop face-planting. Wish me luck!
